2) Click on the Google Button in the top Right corner.
3) Click on “Manage your Google Account” in the menu that drops down.
4) Click on Securtiy from the left hand menu.
5) If you already have 2-Step Verification setup, you can skip to step 9. Click on the arrow to the right of 2-Step Verificaiton.
6) Click on the arrow to the right of your chosen method of 2-Step Verification. Passkeys are not enabled at this time. Google Prompt will have you open a Google app (ie YouTube, Google Photos, etc) on a device you designate to respond to a pop up to say yes it is you logging in. Authenticator allows you to use an authentication app like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, Lastpass, OTP Auth, Authy, etc to create rotating codes that change every 30 seconds that you will have to enter when you’re logging in for the first time in a while. Phone number is the least secure and easiest to compromise where it sends you a text with a code.
7) After setting up your chosen method of 2 Step Verification, click the button to “Turn on 2-Step Verification”
8) You will see a confirmation notice like this listing your chosen method. Click Done.
9) If you don’t see the App passwords section, hit refresh on your browser. Now click on the arrow next to App passwords.
10) Add App name and click “Create” button.
11) Copy and save the password that it shows you, including space between the letters. You cannot go back and look it up again.
12) Navigate to system settings using the Apple in the top right of your screen.
13) Click on “Internet Accounts” in the left side menu.
14) Click on your existing New Heights Account which might look like either of the two circled accounts.
15) Click on the “Delete Account …” button. You won’t lose any email, that is stored on the server. It just removes the local copy.
16) Click OK to Delete the account.
17) Click “Add Account”
18) Click on “Add Other Account”
19) Click on “Mail Account”
20) Enter your New Heights email address and the App Specific Password you saved earlier.
21) It will say it failed to authenticate because it is looking in the wrong place.
22) Change Incoming Mail Server to: imap.gmail.com and Outgoing Mail Server to: smtp.gmail.com and put your email address in the User Name field. It should look like this picture, then click the “Sign In” button.
23) Select what you want to sync and click “Done”
24) Open the Mail App then click on “Mail” on the top left of the screen then click on “Settings” in the dropdown menu.
25) Click on “Accounts” in the top bar, then click on “Newheights” in the left menu, and then click on “Server Settings”
26) If you already had your email setup and are just editing with the new App Specific Password, make sure you copy it into both password fields and that all the other visible settings look the same as the picture, except using your New Heights email address, not jdukes. Under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) the password field doesn’t get copied correctly so you need to delete what is there and past in the App Specific Password you setup.
27) Now you should be all set. You should see your email in your inbox and you will be able to send email properly. You shouldn’t ever need to enter that App Specific Password again unless you turn off 2-Step Authentication or delete it from your security settings on your Google account. If you have any troubles with the process please email [email protected]. Thanks!
